Lamb Weston / Meijer wins the 2015 Task Force Sustainable Palm Oil award.
Mascha Leijten, Marketing & New Business Development Director of Lamb Weston / Meijer receives the TF Award 2015.
The Hague, 19 May 2016 - Lamb Weston / Meijer is receiving this TF award for its complete switch to 100% physically segregated sustainable palm oil in accordance with the Task Force commitment and the agreements made within the sector association (VAVI).
Since 2012 LW/M has been pre-frying its branded Lamb Weston products in sunflower oil (with 75% less saturated fat). This is what prompted LW/M to bring forward the switch to 100% sustainable palm oil for all products with palm oil in the specification. This was done initially by means of 'Book & Claim' certificates, and since 2015 this has been 100% segregated sustainable palm oil originating from physically segregated supply chains. LW/M is taking an active approach to making its overall value chain more sustainable, from harvest to home. The decision to use sustainable palm oil is in keeping with the company's comprehensive sustainability strategy. Sustainable growing, a chain approach and transparency are the basic principles underlying LW/M's 'sustainable 6' strategy. See also www.lambweston-sustainable.com
Since 2011 the TF sustainable palm oil award has been presented annually to the company in the palm oil chain that has made the biggest effort to contribute to making the palm oil chain more sustainable as a whole.
The sustainable palm oil task force is a collaborative effort between suppliers and buyers of palm oil in the Netherlands. The aim is to achieve 100% sustainable palm oil in the Dutch market by the end of 2015. The Dutch food industry processed 84% sustainable palm oil in 2015. This once again represents an increase in the share of sustainable palm oil.
"Lamb Weston / Meijer is working towards making the complete food chain more sustainable and for that purpose has converted all potato products with palm oil in the specification into physically segregated sustainable palm oil, including all private labels produced in Europe", says Jolanda Soons, sustainability manager at Lamb Weston / Meijer.
